Today is Basant Panchami and Saraswati Puja.

Basant Panchami marks the arrival of spring and is celebrated by the people of India in various ways depending on the region and Saraswati Puja is one of the major annual events celebrated in the Indian culture.

Goddess Saraswati is an embodiment of wisdom, knowledge, and learning, also known as the goddess of knowledge. Vidya dahini devi .One of her hand holds a rosary, the other a book while the other two hands focus on playing the musical instrument ‘Veena’.Draped in pure white saree, she sits on an inverted lotus symbolizing knowledge while her vehicle is a white swan.

Students are encouraged to worship Maa Saraswati because of the educational value she holds and we must teach our child the significance of Saraswati Puja. As a child I remember I used to keep my books in front of the Saraswati maa’s idol and prayed to invoke the blessings of the deity. Even today I deliberately took my daughter to nearest Puja Pandal and tried to tell her the significance this day holds.
