Day 12- Meditation, Mental Health & Madness

Hello readers,

How are you all holding up? In India, it is the 11th day of official nation-wide complete lockdown.  We have no idea if we will see normal life for coming few months, no idea if this lockdown will help release the fear in people’s mind, with absolutely no idea if after ten days we would be able to buy full groceries, go out for work and do basic stuff like before.

This is the global scenario and is affecting everyone in some or the other manner.

“It seems as if life has stopped and stuck in the middle of nowhere, lost the track and struggling hard to get back to the track”.

The Madness

Amidst the coronavirus pandemic, the only ray of hope is the privilege of plenty of time we have got in our hands for ourselves and our loved ones. But in tough times like this where we have been dealing with a dearth of food supply at the house, have to manage with limited resource and losing out so many things we use to do just ten days back, somehow doesn’t make many of us happy with what we have got in the name of time.

For the majority of the crowd, it is becoming overwhelming and few of them are somehow losing their mind, as the reported cases of physical violence, abuse and anxiety have been leading the charts.

This is the first time in human history wherein a husband-wife and other family members have been tied together forcefully and just imagine the arrangements where things are pretty messed up in the families and when everyone is at home, the chaos and mental distress is unimaginable.

Three cheers for the ones, who are taking advantage of this time and making memories, learning new things, entertaining themselves and supporting each other and also staying sane.

Mental Health

How does it feel being quarantined at our own house? I feel we all have been taking a lot of extra steps to manage our daily needs, basic supplies, housework, beating stress and taking care of our family members. It is ok even if you don’t feel like doing anything, the dullness and feeling of a little fear and distasteful is very much normal.

Even I haven’t been perfect. I’ve skipped my workouts somedays, ate less or sometimes more, slept a lot and even just gave blank stare the plants in my garden.

You need to know that you don’t have to be perfect to make progress on your mental health. It’s easy to feel like the small things we do every day don’t make a difference but I just want to remind you that you ARE doing a lot.

When you really think about all the tiny little things you do every day it adds up to a lot. We just have to keep going. In the end, these small acts are what is going to get us through this.

  • Take a nap
  • Take a shower.
  • Listen to a good song.
  • Read a book.
  • Watch movies.
  • Cook something good

Meditation

Even though I have skipped working out a few days, I have continued to breathe, it is helping me. I feel lighter every time I do it. I have discovered that for many people who struggle to sit in one place and meditate for like 10 minutes and find it really hard to concentrate, they can actually find their moment of peace while cooking while watering the plants or even sketching/painting.

The aim is to “to be in the moment”, to live in the present an be at peace with yourself. So, continue to breathe.

With this note, I will end here and will see you tomorrow. Holds the hands of your loved loves, take care of each other and let the storm pass, we will be back to our normal life and would be grateful for our life.

Please stay home and stay safe.

Much love and gratitude

Priyanka Nair

  1. It’s definitely a difficult time for so many of us around the globe. The lockdown in the UK is affecting a lot of people’s mental health too. we’re allowed to go out to shop for groceries or have an hour’s exercise in the form of walking, jogging or cycling but it’s the suspicious way that people are now looking at each other which I find sad. rather than smiling at those we pass in the street, even if we have to stay 2 metres away, instead people are scowling and generally looking at everyone as if they are plague ridden. I can’t imagine how difficult it must be to be stuck indoors with a large family, especially if you don’t all get along. But you’re right with the meditation, that is definitely something that can really help ease people’s distress and boost their wellbeing. Love to you and your family and I hope your lockdown won’t last too long ❤ 🙂
